Por Celia Hodent, experta en UX (experiencia de usuario) de videojuegos y psicología cognitiva. Ha trabajado en Ubisoft, LucasArts y en Epic Games (Fortnite) como Directora de UX.
Crear videojuegos divertidos y atractivos es difícil, y con miles de juegos que se lanzan cada año, la competencia es feroz. Aunque no existe una fórmula conocida para crear juegos exitosos, sí hay algunos ingredientes claros que los desarrolladores pueden usar para elaborar su propia receta de éxito. Las disciplinas de experiencia de usuario (UX) y ciencia cognitiva combinadas proporcionan a los desarrolladores esos ingredientes —sin importar el tipo de juego, la plataforma utilizada o el público objetivo— para guiarlos durante el proceso de desarrollo.
La experiencia de un juego ocurre en la mente del jugador. Por eso, comprender el cerebro humano (especialmente sus limitaciones) mientras percibe e interactúa con un juego es fundamental para alcanzar los objetivos de los desarrolladores de manera más rápida y eficiente.
Este taller propone profundizar en cómo funciona el cerebro humano en términos de percepción, atención y memoria (elementos críticos para la usabilidad), y ofrece conocimientos sobre motivación humana, emoción y flujo de juego (elementos críticos para juegos que atrapen al usuario). Basado en estos elementos, el taller presenta un marco de trabajo UX y pautas de UX durante las distintas etapas del desarrollo de juegos.
El objetivo final de este taller es proporcionar a los desarrolladores herramientas para mejorar significativamente la experiencia del juego que están desarrollando, tal como la percibe su audiencia objetivo, no solo en términos de usabilidad, sino también en términos de engagement.
Este taller ofrece numerosos ejemplos, de videojuegos y más allá, para ilustrar cada punto (incluyendo ejemplos de Fortnite, ya que el marco UX del juego cubierto en este taller se utilizó durante su proceso de desarrollo).

Celia Hodent, PhD, es experta en UX de juegos (experiencia de usuario) y psicología cognitiva. Es consultora, conferencista y autora reconocida de The Gamer’s Brain: How Neuroscience and UX can Impact Video Game Design & The Psychology of Video Games.
